Whirlpool ice maker repair covers two quite different machines. Whirlpool's freestanding ice maker in Canada is a 15-inch undercounter unit that can also stand alone, making clear ice instead of the cloudy cubes a refrigerator produces. Water circulates over a chilled plate so the ice forms in thin layers, washing away air and minerals as it builds. Once the cubes are thick enough, the machine harvests them into an insulated bin. It needs a nearby drain, either by gravity or with a pump, and a clean indicator tells you when it's time to descale. Whirlpool refrigerators have their own built-in ice makers, which we repair too.

Whirlpool ice maker not making ice
On the undercounter clear-ice machine, slow or stopped production is usually about heat or water. A dusty condenser, a blocked front grille or a cabinet squeezed between the dishwasher and the oven stops the plate getting cold enough. On the water side, scale on the freezing plate or a weak circulation pump slows everything down. Check that the water supply is open and the grille is clean, and give a new or restarted unit time to produce. If the plate isn't cold at all, the refrigeration system needs testing.
Whirlpool ice maker making cloudy ice
Clear ice depends on water flowing evenly over the freezing plate so air and minerals wash away as the cube builds. Mineral scale, a clogged water distributor or a circulation pump losing strength gives you thin, cloudy or partly formed cubes. Run the cleaning cycle with the ice machine cleaner your manual specifies, not whatever descaler is under the sink. Homes on well water see this sooner than those on soft municipal supply. If the cubes are still cloudy after a full clean, we check the distributor and pump.
Whirlpool undercounter ice maker leaking
Melt water from the bin drains continuously, so any blockage in the drain line shows up quickly as water on the floor or standing in the bin. Gravity models need a drain below the unit; pump models depend on the drain pump. A sagging drain line, a failed pump or a cracked reservoir is the usual source. Turn the machine off, shut the water supply and look behind it for a kinked or disconnected hose. We test the drain pump, replace cracked parts and check the inlet connection while we're there.
Whirlpool ice maker clean light on
When the clean indicator stays lit, or the machine stops releasing ice, scale may be affecting the sensors that decide when cubes are ready to harvest. Run the cleaning cycle as your manual describes; putting it off is the most common reason these machines slow down. If the light stays on afterwards, or the ice slab sits on the plate without dropping, the thickness sensor or harvest components may be failing. We descale the machine first, then test those parts before replacing anything.
Whirlpool fridge ice maker not working
Inside a Whirlpool refrigerator, ice production usually stops because the water inlet valve has failed, the fill tube has frozen solid or the ice maker module has quit. Check the ice maker is switched on and its shut-off arm or sensor isn't in the off position, the household valve is open and the filter is fresh. Freezer air leaking in around the fill tube is a common reason it freezes. If water still isn't reaching the mould, we test the valve, fill tube, module and freezer temperature.

How often should my Whirlpool ice maker be cleaned?
Every time the clean indicator comes on, without putting it off. Homes with hard well water may need it more often. A dedicated ice machine cleaner removes the scale that slows production and clouds the cubes, and we can descale it during a visit and show you the steps.
Why is my Whirlpool undercounter ice maker making less ice than before?
Usually a dirty condenser, poor airflow through the front grille or scale on the freezing plate. A warm room, such as a basement bar next to the furnace, also slows production. If cleaning doesn't help, we test the refrigeration system, water pump and sensors.
Do you also fix the ice maker in my Whirlpool fridge?
