Good wine storage comes down to consistency. A cooler that wanders a few degrees or cycles constantly can quietly affect bottles you've cellared for years, and a beverage centre that fails the week of a party is a headache of a different kind. Fix Cheetah repairs wine coolers in Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and across the Fraser Valley and Sea-to-Sky corridor, with 24/7 booking and same-day visits often available.
Cavavin and Fhiaba are the two brands we're warranty-authorized for, and we also work on Sub-Zero, U-Line, Marvel, Liebherr, Miele, Thermador, Fulgor Milano, True Residential, GE Monogram, Danby and Bosch. Whether it's one undercounter unit or a full-height built-in wine column, we're familiar with the compact refrigeration and electronic controls these coolers rely on.
Most wine coolers and beverage centres sit in finished basements, home bars and kitchen islands. When one has to come out and go back in, we protect the surrounding millwork and flooring.
Small warning signs worth acting on
Wine coolers seldom fail overnight. Temperatures drift up a degree at a time, and often nobody notices until a bottle tastes flat. These quieter signs are easy to overlook.
- A thermometer on the middle shelf reads more than a degree or two off the display
- Labels turning damp, or corks beginning to creep upward
- A door that won't stay shut by itself or drift back open
- Lights or a display that flickers, blinks or goes dark
- A compressor that clicks on and off every few minutes
How we diagnose wine cooler problems
Most wine coolers and beverage centres run on a small compressor-based system, although some compact models use thermoelectric cooling instead. We begin by measuring the real cabinet temperature in each zone, then check the compressor and start components, both fans and the airflow path. Front-venting undercounter units breathe through the toe-kick, so the condenser and the space behind that grille get a careful look.
Dual-zone models carry separate sensors, fans and sometimes heaters or dampers for each zone, and each of those gets tested on its own. Gaskets, hinge alignment and glass seals get checked too. Even a tiny air leak can cause condensation, frost and nonstop running.
Warranty-authorized Cavavin and Fhiaba service
Because we're warranty-authorized for Cavavin and Fhiaba, eligible in-warranty repairs follow the manufacturer's procedures and use approved parts. Outside warranty, you still get a technician who knows how these specific coolers are built and how they tend to fail.
Unsure whether your cooler is still covered? Keep the model and serial number handy when you call or book online, and we'll help you work it out.
Wine fridge brands we repair
Beyond Cavavin and Fhiaba, our wine and beverage refrigeration work covers Sub-Zero, U-Line, Marvel, Liebherr, Miele, Thermador, Fulgor Milano, True Residential, GE Monogram, Café, Bosch, Danby, Fisher & Paykel, JennAir and KitchenAid. Premium built-in wine columns from Sub-Zero, Liebherr, Fhiaba and Thermador are engineered for long lives, so repairing them almost always makes sense.
Installation, humidity and the Metro Vancouver climate
Where a wine cooler is installed matters more than most owners realize. Freestanding models need open space around the back and sides, while built-in units are made for zero-clearance cabinetry with ventilation at the front. Many compressor failures we see start with a freestanding cooler pushed into a cabinet opening, where it slowly overheats.
Humid coastal air shows up as condensation on glass doors, particularly in warm basements and kitchens. If it never clears, look at the gasket, a door heater that has failed, or a room more humid than the cooler was built for. In the drier Interior of BC, some collectors set a humidity tray inside to stop corks drying out.
- Keep front grilles and toe-kick vents clear of mats and storage
- Clean the condenser on a regular schedule, more often with pets
- Don't tuck it beside an oven, a dishwasher or a sunny window
- Check the door seal and keep each opening brief
Repair or replace your wine cooler?
Fans, thermostats, sensors, control boards, gaskets and start components are modest repairs that can keep a good cooler running for years. Sealed-system work is worth it on premium built-ins from Sub-Zero, Liebherr, Fhiaba, Cavavin and comparable brands. On an inexpensive thermoelectric or compact unit, replacing it is often the better value, and we'll say so.
5 Most Common Wine Cooler & Beverage Centre Issues and How to Fix Them
The wine cooler is not cooling
In most cases a warm wine cooler is struggling to get rid of heat. A dust-clogged condenser, a blocked front grille or a stalled condenser fan is the usual story. After that, suspect a bad start relay, a thermostat, or, on budget models, the thermoelectric Peltier module. Unplug the unit, vacuum the grille and condenser, and make sure there is clear space in front of the toe kick. A compressor that clicks without starting, or a cabinet still warm by morning, calls for professional testing of the start components and sealed system.
Wine fridge temperature fluctuating
When the temperature swings several degrees, or one zone of a dual-zone cooler runs warm while the other stays put, the cause is usually a failing zone sensor, a weak evaporator fan, a sticky air damper or a control board fault. Bottles jammed against the rear wall can also choke airflow. Leave about a finger's width behind each bottle, confirm the door closes completely, and set a thermometer on a middle shelf to compare against the display. If the drift continues, the sensor, fan and board need testing and replacing where faulty.
Wine cooler making loud noise
Bottles do best with minimal vibration, so noise from the cooler is worth chasing down. A rattle or grinding hum near the bottom front often means worn condenser fan bearings, while ticking or scraping inside the cabinet can be the evaporator fan catching ice. A heavy buzz or knock from the rear may point to loose compressor mounts. Make sure the cooler sits level and isn't touching cabinetry, and always unplug it before clearing anything from the grille. If the noise persists, a technician can replace the fan motor or secure the compressor.
Condensation inside the wine cooler
Droplets on the glass, or a puddle in the bottom of the cabinet, usually mean humid room air is slipping past a worn or twisted gasket, or that a blocked drain hole is sending defrost water into the cooler instead of out of it. Some glass doors also have a heated frame, and those can fail. Inspect the gasket for gaps, clear the drain hole with a pipe cleaner once the unit is unplugged, and keep openings short on humid days. New gaskets, door heaters and hinge adjustments are routine professional jobs.
Wine fridge freezing up
Ice on the rear wall, or bottles frozen near the back, typically means the temperature sensor reads too warm, so the compressor never gets a chance to stop. A defrost cycle that doesn't complete, or bottles stacked tight against the evaporator plate, can do the same. Unplug it, let the ice melt with the door open and towels on the floor, then restart with room behind the bottles. If ice returns within days, the sensor, board and defrost function need professional diagnosis. Don't chip at the evaporator to hurry things along.
The longer a collection sits too warm, the more it is at risk. Our technicians test the cooling system, replace failed sensors, fans, gaskets and controls, and handle Cavavin and Fhiaba warranty repairs from Vancouver to Whistler.

Wine Cooler & Beverage Centre FAQ
Why is my wine fridge not cooling?
Usually it can't get rid of heat because of a dusty condenser, a blocked front grille or a failed condenser fan. A bad start relay or thermostat comes next, and on thermoelectric models, the Peltier module. A freestanding cooler built into cabinetry it wasn't designed for will struggle too.
Are you authorized to do Cavavin warranty repairs?
Yes, Fix Cheetah is warranty-authorized for both Cavavin and Fhiaba. Have the model and serial number ready when you call or book online, and we'll help confirm what's covered.
What temperature should a wine fridge be?
For long-term storage, 12 to 13°C is the commonly recommended range for both reds and whites. Dual-zone models let you hold one zone a little cooler for whites and sparkling wine you plan to serve soon. Steadiness matters most, so a cooler that swings several degrees deserves a look.
My wine cooler is running constantly. What's wrong?
A cooler that never cycles off usually can't reject heat, thanks to a dirty condenser, a failed condenser fan or poor ventilation around the cabinet. A leaky door seal or a drifting temperature sensor can cause it as well. We look for the root cause so the problem doesn't return.
Why is there condensation on my wine cooler's glass door?
Most often the room is humid, and the gasket isn't sealing well. Heated glass or frame heaters, where fitted, can also fail. We check the seal, hinge alignment and any door heaters.
Can you repair built-in wine columns?
Yes. Built-in and integrated columns from Sub-Zero, Liebherr, Fhiaba, Thermador, Miele and Fulgor Milano are routine for us, and custom panels and cabinetry stay protected throughout.
Should I move my wine while the cooler is being repaired?
If the cooler has been running warm for a while, yes. Move the bottles to the coolest, darkest spot in your home and lay them on their sides. Once the fault is diagnosed, the technician can tell you roughly how long the repair will take.
Is my freestanding wine cooler safe to build into a cabinet?
Only when the manufacturer approves it. Freestanding units release heat from the back and sides, and boxing them in can cause overheating and early compressor failure. Built-in models vent through the front grille and are designed for cabinetry.
