Miele's W1 front-load washers are 24-inch compact machines designed to stack with a matching T1 dryer, which makes them common in condo laundry closets and European-style laundry rooms. They use Miele's honeycomb drum, which washes gently on a thin film of water, and many have TwinDos, a two-cartridge system that doses detergent automatically through small pumps, plus CapDosing for single-use capsules. Inlet hoses on many models are part of Miele's Waterproof leak protection. Problems appear as plain-language messages such as Check drain or Check water inlet, along with fault codes like F11 for draining.

5 Most Common Miele Washer Issues and How to Fix Them
Miele washer Check drain error
Check drain or F11 means the water didn't pump away in time. The drain filter behind the flap at the bottom front has usually collected lint, coins or hair clips, or something has reached the pump itself. Unplug the washer, put down towels and a shallow tray, and unscrew the filter slowly to let the water out. Clean it and check that the drain hose isn't kinked or forced too deep into the standpipe. If the message returns with a clean filter, the drain pump needs testing.
Miele TwinDos not dispensing
Detergent that sits unused for weeks can thicken in the cartridge or the dosing tubes, and a cartridge that isn't seated properly won't be detected. Pull both cartridges, check they're genuine UltraPhase containers, wipe the connections and click them back in until they lock. Make sure TwinDos is switched on for the program. If the washer still reports an empty cartridge or the laundry comes out without detergent, the dosing pumps and their lines need testing and cleaning by a technician.
Miele washer not filling
Check water inlet, or a slow fill, means water isn't arriving fast enough. A partly closed tap, a clogged filter in the hose connection or a fault in the Waterproof valve on the inlet hose can all restrict it. Unplug the washer, make sure the tap is fully open, and look along the hose for kinks behind the machine. Low pressure elsewhere in the house is worth noting too. We work from the tap inward, testing the hose valve and the washer's inlet valves to find the restriction.
Miele washer door won't open
The door stays locked while water remains in the drum or the lock senses heat. After a hot program, give it a few minutes. If water is visible above the door rim, clear the drain filter first, with towels down and the power off, rather than pulling on the door. Forcing it can break the lock or the hinge. If the washer has drained and cooled and the door still won't release, the lock or its control circuit needs testing by a technician.
Miele washer noisy on spin
A rumble that grows with speed points to worn drum bearings. A sharp rattle or scrape is more often a foreign object, such as a bra wire or coin, trapped between the honeycomb drum and the tub. Unplug the washer, empty it and turn the drum by hand while listening, and check pockets before each load. Clean the drain filter in case something has reached it. Miele washers are designed so major components can be serviced, so a bearing repair is often a realistic option.

Why is my Miele washer leaving detergent residue?
Usually because of overdosing. In soft Metro Vancouver water, the amounts printed on detergent packaging are often too much. TwinDos and capsules dose more accurately. If residue continues with correct dosing, we check water intake and rinse performance.
