5 Most Common Miele Dryer Issues and How to Fix Them
Miele heat pump dryer taking too long
Lint that slips past the door filters settles on the plinth filter's foam, then on the heat exchanger behind it. Once that path clogs, a T1 can run for hours and still leave towels damp, often with a clean-filters message on the display. Unplug the dryer, pull out the door filters and the plinth filter, rinse the foam under warm water and let it dry fully before refitting. If drying stays slow with clean filters, the heat exchanger, fan or compressor needs professional attention.
Miele dryer empty container message keeps coming back
If the message appears with the container empty, the condensate pump may be failing, its small filter may be blocked with fluff, or the float that senses the water level may be sticking. On plumbed installations, a kinked drain hose or a standpipe set too high stops the water leaving. Empty the container, rinse it and slide it fully home, then follow the drain hose behind the dryer looking for kinks. If the message keeps returning, the pump, float and hoses need testing and probably a part.
Miele dryer not heating
When the drum turns but the air stays cool, the heat pump compressor may not be starting, or a temperature sensor may be telling the electronics it's already warm. Room conditions matter more than people expect: a T1 in a small, shut closet or an unheated garage can stall outside the temperature range given in the manual. Check the breaker, clean the filters, and open the closet door or louvres before a test run. Compressor and sealed-system diagnosis must be done by a trained technician; never attempt refrigerant work.
Miele dryer clothes damp or over-dried
Miele judges dryness through moisture sensing in the drum, so a film of fabric softener on the drum's sensing surfaces throws the reading off. A PerfectDry setting that doesn't match your water hardness, or the wrong program for the load, can leave items damp or overdone. After unplugging, wipe the drum and its ribs with a damp cloth, and check the water hardness setting against your manual. If results are still inconsistent, we test the sensors, the control electronics and airflow through the exchanger.
Miele dryer drum squeaking or not turning
A worn drive belt slips and squeals, while tired drum rollers or a damaged felt drum seal produce a rumble or a scraping sound at the front. If the belt snaps, the drum stops while the fan may keep running. Unplug the dryer, check the drum for a hair clip or coin trapped at the seal, and avoid overloading the compact drum with heavy bedding. These are replaceable wear parts, and on a T1 that's otherwise healthy, replacing them is well worth it.

Why is my Miele heat pump dryer slower than my old vented dryer?
Because it dries at lower temperatures, cycles are longer by design, which is gentler on fabrics and uses far less energy. If drying time has crept up noticeably compared with how this dryer used to run, clogged filters or a lint-coated heat exchanger are the usual cause.
Can a Miele heat pump dryer go in a closet?
Yes, but it still needs to exchange heat with the room. A small, tightly closed closet can get too warm, which slows drying or triggers a fault. Follow the ventilation guidance in the installation instructions and leave the door or louvres open if needed.
Should I plumb my Miele dryer's condensate to a drain?
It's optional. Emptying the container works fine, but running the drain hose to a standpipe or sink drain saves a step and stops container-full interruptions. We can check whether your laundry space has a suitable drain nearby.
