About Inglis

Inglis traces back to 1859, when John Inglis co-founded a machine shop in Guelph, Ontario, that later moved to Toronto. The company built steam engines and pumps, and during the Second World War it produced Bren light machine guns. After the war it began making washing machines under an agreement with Whirlpool. Whirlpool took control in 1987 and renamed the company Whirlpool Canada in 2001.

Today Inglis is a Canadian brand of Whirlpool Corporation, kept alive mainly for its long recognition among Canadian households. Recent Inglis products have focused on laundry, with top-load washers and electric dryers, while refrigerators, ranges and dishwashers carrying the Inglis name remain common in older homes. The brand is sold and supported through Whirlpool Canada and its dealer network.
