Wolf began in Los Angeles in the 1930s as a maker of commercial cooking equipment for restaurants. In 2000 Sub-Zero, the Madison, Wisconsin, refrigeration company, acquired Wolf's residential cooking business, and Wolf has been the cooking brand of the family-owned Sub-Zero Group ever since. Its products are designed and built in Wisconsin, and its ranges are often recognized at a glance by their signature red knobs.

Wolf is known for dual-stacked sealed burners, which pair a high-heat upper flame with a gentle lower flame for very low simmering.
