About Roper

Roper began as an American stove maker and built ranges for decades, with its appliance operations long centred on Kankakee, Illinois. In 1988 General Electric acquired Roper Corporation's appliance manufacturing after a bidding contest with Whirlpool, and the following year Whirlpool acquired the rights to the Roper brand name. Since then, Roper appliances have been designed and built by Whirlpool Corporation alongside its other brands.

Whirlpool positions Roper as a simple, value-focused brand, and the current lineup centres on top-load washers with agitators and matching electric and gas dryers, sold mainly in the United States. Earlier Roper ranges, refrigerators and laundry pairs share many components with Whirlpool-built models, which keeps parts widely available. In Canada, Whirlpool's comparable value brand has traditionally been Inglis rather than Roper.
