About Kenmore

The Kenmore name first appeared on a Sears sewing machine in 1913, and the first Kenmore washing machine followed in 1927. For most of the twentieth century Kenmore was among the best-selling appliance brands in North America, sold exclusively through Sears and Sears Canada. When Sears Canada closed its stores in 2017 and 2018, Kenmore largely disappeared from Canadian shelves.

Sears Holdings sold the Kenmore brand to Transformco in 2019, and it has since started returning to Canadian retail with a smaller range of products such as freezers and wine cellars. Most Kenmores in BC homes, though, are refrigerators, washers, dryers, dishwashers, ranges and microwaves bought from Sears Canada, built under contract by manufacturers such as Whirlpool, LG and Electrolux.
