Homes around Hatzic Lake and the slough sit on low, damp ground, and water levels around the lake rise with the Fraser's spring freshet. That moisture finds its way into basements, crawlspaces and garages where washers, dryers and spare freezers often live. We see rust on cabinet bottoms, corroded wiring connections, and front-load washers with mildew in the door gasket. A dehumidifier, good airflow and leaving the washer door ajar between loads go a long way, and we replace corroded parts before they cause bigger failures.

Our freezer stopped after a power outage. What should we check first?

Check the breaker or GFCI outlet and make sure the unit is plugged in firmly, then wait a few minutes to see if it restarts. If it still will not run, or runs but does not get cold, book a visit and keep the lid or door closed to protect the food.

Why does our front-load washer smell musty?

Damp air near the lake makes this more likely. Wipe the door gasket, leave the door and detergent drawer open between loads and run a cleaning cycle monthly. If a smell persists, the drain pump filter or hoses may need cleaning, which we can handle during a visit.
